“Everyone has a story, and there’s something to be learned from every experience”

Oprah Winfrey

Inspired by our experience of publishing collaborative books for charity (find out about these here: engaging stories – our words can make a difference) we offer storytelling as a creative way to engage people.

How it works is this:

1. We support people to share their stories and reflections in writing or verbally. If people are sharing their stories in writing, we can kick proceedings off with a fun creative writing workshop to get the words flowing. Or, if you prefer, we can write the stories, faithfully reflecting people’s experiences through 121 interviews.

2. We then edit and collate these personal testimonies into the format to suit your needs. This could be as a blog, a newsletter, even a book, or it could simply be as a report to provide insight into people’s experiences and ideas.

And here’s why we think engaging people through storytelling is so powerful:

  • It provides depth of understanding, an invaluable insight into first person experience
  • It captures people’s stories for posterity, preserving them for the future
  • It provides a powerful platform for people to be truly heard
  • Storytelling is good for our wellbeing, especially if people are writing their own words. We know from our experience how incredibly cathartic it can be when people put finger to keypad or pen to paper to write their stories.
Plus, the great thing about engaging people through storytelling is that it is a creative tool that can be employed in so many ways. Such as capturing people’s memories of where they live, or drawing out residents views on their community, or bringing together employees’ personal testimonies to shine a light on a company’s DNA.

What’s more, engaging through storytelling leaves a legacy, and it can even light a spark in someone to write and create more.

“Storytelling is about taking someone on a journey with you”

Robert Fogarty
